Our 38th season opens with this concert featuring daring acts and bold aspirations–music that will make you hold your breath. Works by composers Eric Whitacre and Hugo Wolf will be presented, as will "That's One Small Step" about the 1969 moon landing by Canadian composer Tawnie Olson. Additional composers include Marie-Claire Saindon and Joel Thompson, and Camerata will perform a newly commissioned work by previous Composer-in-Residence Benjamin Sigerson with text by Halifax Poet Laureate Anna Quon. Featured in this concert will be local percussionist Trevor Brandenburg and a guest string quartet from the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra.

A highlight of the holiday season, Handel’s Messiah is the consummate masterpiece, eliciting joy, triumph, and majesty. Together with four outstanding vocal soloists and the 80-voice Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus (including core choir, Halifax Camerata Singers), the Symphony presents this glorious oratorio, a beloved annual tradition and highlight of the Christmas season for millions around the world each year.

Winter Showcase

Camerata presents its innovative Winter Showcase. Last season’s Broadway Winter Showcase was a huge hit, and this year’s event will be equally captivating. Featuring pop and folk solos and ensembles from the Camerata choir, this concert promises to have feet tapping, hands clapping, and audience voices joining Camerata’s in song!

May 24, 2025, at 7 p.m. | All Nations Church, Halifax

This concert’s focus will be on releasing and letting go, gathering strength in self and finding community. We will welcome local dancer Meredith Kalaman and Halifax cellist Hilary Brown to this culmination of Camerata’s partnership with the Halifax-Dartmouth Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. The program will feature the premiere performance of a work by Composer-in-Residence India Gailey, along with other major pieces by composers Henk Badings (Trois chansons bretonnes) and Cecilia McDowall (Night Flight), and repertoire by Johannes Brahms, Nancy Telfer, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Jocelyn Hagen.
