Michael James

Hailing from Canada’s smallest province, Michael James (van der Gaag) graduated from UPEI with a Bachelor of Music in 2010, majoring in voice under the direction of Stephen Bouey, while studying Choral conducting with Sung-Ha Shin Bouey. Michael is honoured to have been part of countless choral experiences, including singing with the National Youth Choir of Canada in 2008, 2010 and 2012, as well as participating in Nova Scotia’s “Juvenata” festivals in 2008 and 2010. Michael also had the privilege of singing in Vancouver as a member of musica intima in 2012. Michael has performed as a tenor soloist for Haydn’s Paukenmesse (2007), Mozart’s Requiem (2008), Dvorak’s Stabat Mater (2009), Handel’s Messiah (2010, 2014) and Rossini’s Petit Messe Solennelle (2011).

Michael is also a member of Helios Vocal Ensemble, a vocal quintet specializing in early music polyphony.
