John Lindsay-Botten

Since moving to Halifax in 2004, John Lindsay-Botten (JLB) has been active in Greater Halifax with church music, presently acting as Music Director at Knox United Church in Lower Sackville. His most recent Opera Nova Scotia turn in May 2019 came as Francesco/chorus in The Gondoliers; one month later JLB sang in the opera-in-concert version of Escape to Freedom, which he reprised last month at Neptune Theatre. This professional chorister has sung with Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Elora Festival Singers and Nathaniel Dett Chorale among others, but now sings with the Halifax Camerata Singers. He founded the East Coast Carolling Co. in 2005, about to embark on their 18th season. (If you’re counting, that’s but half of what Jeff Joudrey has done with Camerata in the province.) He’s been makes ripples with the a cappella offshoot Local Vocals, or LoVo. A music instructor, composer and arranger, background actor and voice actor to boot, there’ve been speaking roles on screen for JLB in Trailer Park Boys and Mr. D, and he’ll appear in Washington Black next year as “Judge #2”, too.
