About Us The Halifax Camerata Singers, an auditioned ensemble of dedicated singers from across Nova Scotia, is the area's leading chamber choir. Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Jeff Joudrey, the choir performs an extensive repertoire covering all periods and styles. Camerata has a reputation for performance excellence that sets a high standard, even in a province known for its rich musical tradition. The choir performs at least five concerts each year, including collaborative performances with chamber orchestra ensembles, Symphony Nova Scotia and other musicians. Since 2001 Camerata has been the core choir of the 75-voice Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus, which usually performs two concerts a year including a Christmas performance of Handel's Messiah. The Halifax Camerata Singers are popular feature artists with the St. Cecilia Concert Series. The Halifax Camerata Singers frequently performs in concert series such as Musique Royale, St. Cecilia Society, the Dartmouth Community Concert Association, and Music at the Three Churches. In 2008 the choir was awarded the Galaxie Rising Star Prize in the CBC’s 17th national Choral Competition. |
